The Fabada and Las Verdinas Route, with ten editions behind it, six of them worldwide, is celebrating its eleventh year.

The celebration dates for this eleventh edition will be from February 28 to March 23, 2025, celebrating #Fabadaday, World Fabada Day, on March 15, 2025.

The Fabada and Verdinas Route and #FabadaDay, World Fabada Day, are a recognition of one of the most emblematic dishes in Spanish gastronomic history, and during the days of its celebration, Asturians, wherever they are, share them with the rest of the world to celebrate, beyond recipes and ingredients, the international dimension of the beans and verdinas of Asturias.

The 11th edition is once again organised by the events and communications company Nacho Sandoval Estrategias and Marketing and is sponsored by Codilex Camín Astur and Bodegas Carlos Serres, from Haro, Rioja Alta, whose wines Carlos Serres Crianza and Carlos Serres 1896 Finca El Estanque “Segundo Año” will be featured in all the restaurants taking part in the Route, with the collaboration of Oviedo City Council, the Asturias Hospitality and Tourism Association, OTEA, FACYRE, ACYRE and Moscovitas de Rialto.

The presentation of this new edition took place on February 28 at the Centro Riojano in Madrid with the presence of both the organization and representatives of the sponsors, among whom were Iván Alonso, manager of Codilex Camín Astur, and Santiago Vivanco (as a representative of the Vivanco Family, owner of the century-old Bodegas Carlos Serres). The guests were able to participate and taste a selection of dishes made with Codilex Camín Astur beans and verdinas, by several participating restaurants, as well as a tasting of the Carlos Serres Crianza and Carlos Serres 1896 Finca El Estanque “Segundo Año” wines, which will accompany the dishes in each restaurant associated with the route. The tasting of dishes was carried out in the following order:

On this occasion, restaurants from Asturias, Madrid, Castilla y León, Andalusia and Castilla-La Mancha are participating. At an international level, participating restaurants are located in America, Asia and Oceania. All participating restaurants will be geolocated on Google Maps, forming a digital gastromap with their data and gastronomic proposals that can be consulted through the Ruta de la Fabada website. They will offer different menus whose main dish will be Asturian fabada, or dishes of beans with stumbling blocks or verdinas, with beans or verdinas from Codilex Camín Astur, paired with Carlos Serres crianza wine and Finca El Estanque “Segundo Año”.

During the development of the route, the 3rd edition of the Best Verdinas of Spain contest will take place, in which those restaurants registered in the 11th edition of the Ruta de la Fabada and Las Verdinas will be able to participate.

Since 2017, the UN has celebrated World Legumes Day every February 10. Although health authorities consider them a “basic food” for maintaining a healthy diet, in Spain we are far from the world average consumption of about 21 grams per person/day, that is, 5.7 kg per person per year, according to the FAO.
