Tobía author´s selection white 2020

  • Tobía white selection 2020.

An original blend between the autochthonous and the universal to conquer the most experienced palates.

The international profile presented by the new 'Tobía Selección de Autor Blanco 2020', thanks to its original varietal composition, is proof of the tireless innovative spirit that continues to animate Oscar Tobía and of the notable contribution of this winemaker to the wine revolution white wines from the DOCa Rioja that have been produced in the last decade. This 'Selección de Autor' white is the result of a blend as genuine as the one conceived by Oscar -we do not know of any similar- between the most international grape on the planet -chardonnay-, with the autochthonous grape from La Rioja par excellence -tempranillo white.

The idea arose with the priority objective of creating a wine for export, according to the tastes of customers accustomed to the profile of Chardonnays from Chablis or South Africa. They had been able to contrast this in advance in the winery through the perception transmitted by foreign visitors when they tasted the Chardonnay and the white Tempranillo directly from the foudres where they are aged separately for seven months.

In addition to this 7-month aging in new barrels, with periodic battonage of its fine lees, the entire production process of Tobía Selección de Autor Blanco is carried out separately for the two varieties: manual harvest, vatting and cold maceration of the grape. destemmed and not crushed in smart 'Ganimede' tanks, tapping of the first quality free-run must that goes on to ferment in new French oak barrels in the case of Chardonnay and American oak in the case of Tempranillo Blanco.

The result is a wine with a golden yellow color with greenish reflections, whose intense aroma resembles a symphony of fruity notes (ripe pineapple, citrus, pear and peach skin), accompanied by notes of pastry and honey, to which are added the aromas of vanilla and cinnamon from the aging under a floral background. Its palate is sweet and silky, very fresh and with a pleasant acidity. It has a perfumed aftertaste (quince and vanilla notes) and gradually acquires volume, roundness, length, with a very persistent finish. It is a very gastronomic wine, which perfectly accompanies cured cheeses, seafood with an intense flavor or oily fish, Asian cuisine or traditional dishes of French cuisine, such as those made with foie.

Oscar Tobía is part of that generation of winemakers who in the last decade of the 20th century took the reins of the family business and revolutionized the panorama of Rioja based on excellent academic preparation (graduated as an agronomist and master in viticulture and oenology). and to a new approach that gave the vineyard greater prominence and to produce wines with new profiles, the result of an innovative attitude.

Creator of signature wines with the soul of classics, Oscar Tobía has become one of the essential references of current Rioja and of the revolution led by white wines. Its attractive range of white wines compete with international profiles of chardonnays from Chablis or South Africa with its Tobía Selección de Autor (50% chardonnay and 50% white tempranillo), it pays homage to French whites with its Alma de Tobía three varietals (chardonnay and sauvignon blanc based on the native white Maturana), or indulges in the challenge of turning its reserve whites into the new Rioja classics.
