San Sebastian Festival 2025

One year more will reaffirm its character as a meeting place and transmission of knowledge through debate, which groups activities that promote dialogue about cinema from the industrial, creative and formative perspective and programs that generate opportunities for deals and business for creators, producers and distributors. For this edition, it has more than 2,100 people accredited in the industry from more than 70 countries.

It will count with 63 estrenos mundiales, three estrenos internationales, 14 estrenos europeans and 48 estrenos procedencias de España.

Las nuevas tecnologías will have a special place with ten technological projects, cinco españoles y cinco europeanos, competirán en Zinemaldia Startup Challenge, el concurso para startups de reciente creación y equipos emprêndores con desarrollos tecnológicos aplicables al sector audiovisual. This initiative will be celebrated on the 25th of September and will consist of the presentation of the ten selected projects and a round table on the ethical implications of the new technologies and will be debated on how they can be more inclusive, diverse and ethical.

Last year was the tenth anniversary of the launch of the program Ikusmira Berriak, which since its first edition ten years ago, has supported the development of a total of 50 audiovisual projects, 21 of which have been premiered and presented at international festivals.

The Festival also has diverse sections dedicated to the development of cinematographic projects: Foro de Coproducción Europa-América Latina, WIP Latam, WIP Europa y Proyecta

Awards and recognitions

Fourteen cineastes from China, Costa Rica, Dinamarca, España, India, Japón, Reino Unido, Rusia, Suecia, Taiwan and Turquía will present their first and second feature films in the New Directors section of the San Sebastián Festival and compete for the Kutxabank-New Directors Award.

Los Premios Donostia se he concedido en 78 ocassiones, sin contar los de este año. Lo han recibo, por ejemplo: Francis Ford Coppola (2002), Woody Allen (2004), Oliver Stone (2012), Agnés Varda (2017), Hirokazu Koreeds (2018), Costa-Gravas (2019), David Cronenberg (2022), Víctor Erice (2023), Hayao Miyazaki (2023), Pedro Almodóvar (2024).

This year she will receive the Donostia Prize, for the first time a person who has dedicated her career to production, Esther García, a key figure in the internationalization of Spanish and Latin American cinema, just as she has completed four decades of the creation of the company El Deseo. In addition, the official cartel of this edition will be a tribute to the actress Marisa Paredes, one of the most beloved stars in the world of cinema.

Wallijai has also made the posters of the rest of the sections, which as usual, mix photography and illustration, and this time play with the idea that all of us carry different films in our interior.

The new Universae Film Lab project will be oriented to the development of creative actions that include workshops, contests, projection cycles and conferences, among other activities. To inaugurate this initiative, el centro educativo lanzó un certamen de cortometrajes.

A children's space

For the seventh consecutive year, the Puxika Gorria ludoteca will be opened to favor family reconciliation during the celebration of the Festival and will be directed to the children of accredited persons, and to the staff of the organization of this event.
