Flamenco festival 2025 in Girona

With this expansion, the festival, in addition to consolidating its position as a cultural benchmark in the Girona region, is expanding its reach into Europe and reaffirming its mission to be a diverse, accessible, and open festival, capable of generating dialogue and alliances beyond its territory, reinforcing this natural connection and the desire to build cultural bridges. Opening up to France also means embracing shared memories and establishing links between communities, bringing the essence of flamenco to new audiences and territories.

Tribute to Paco de Lucía

This 2025, FlamenGi will pay tribute to Paco de Lucía, a key figure in the history of music and the architect of the modern flamenco revolution. An unparalleled genius, Paco de Lucía not only brought the flamenco guitar to international stages, but also imbued it with an artistic dignity and expressive freedom that marked a before and after.

With a brilliant career as a composer, performer, and innovator, he broke down barriers between genres, fusing jazz, classical, and Latin music without ever abandoning his Andalusian roots thanks to his free, open, and demanding approach to flamenco.

This tribute will feature the collaboration of the Paco de Lucía Foundation and the Paco de Lucía Interpretation Center in Algeciras. Various events will be included in memory and recognition of his figure. Among the activities offered are the screening of the documentary Paco de Lucía: La búsqueda (The Search) and an intimate conversation with his son and director, Curro Sánchez, and flamenco dancer Antonio Fernández Montoya, El Farru, and a commentary by journalist and music critic Pere Pons about Paco de Lucía's album Sextet: Live... One Summer Night.

FlamenGi 2025 not only honors him as a legend, but also as a guide and inspiration for a new generation of artists and audiences who understand flamenco as a living culture.

Opening performance

The festival will be stepping into a monumental public space for the first time, and will do so with an unprecedented offering: Israel Galván, one of the most international and groundbreaking figures in contemporary flamenco, will offer the opening performance on the steps of Girona Cathedral, an emblematic and unique setting for its history and architecture. The performance will take place on November 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Israel Galván, a dancer and choreographer from Seville, is an icon of contemporary flamenco. Internationally recognized for his innovative approach and dramatic transformation, Galván has broken new ground and brought flamenco to the most prestigious contemporary dance circles worldwide. Regarding the dance he will perform, he commented, “My partners are the people who come. I'm going to dance in this beautiful place; it will surely change the way I dance. For me, it will be something unique.”

Programación

El festival flamenco de referencia en Cataluña contará con una programación paralela, potente, diversa y comprometida para todos los públicos. 

Noemí Osorio, directora y gerente del festival destacó en rueda de prensa, “es un festival con alma, social que conecta la tradición, la contemporaneidad, la memoria y el futuro”.

Además de los conciertos ofrece masterclasses de las distintas disciplinas del flamenco, podcasts en directo, la proyección de un documental, charlas y conferencias, la tradicional comida popular con rumba en directo y una programación especial en los diferentes barrios de Girona.

FlamenGi además de ser un festival artístico, es un proyecto de transformación cultural que reivindica el flamenco como expresión popular, como parte del patrimonio vivo y accesible, y también como herramienta pedagógica y de inclusión, con una clara apuesta por la visibilización del talento local y la participación ciudadana.
