The logistics operator has developed the DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery model, intended to make deliveries without local emissions in certain metropolitan areas of Europe. Currently, this sustainable urban logistics model is implemented in 13 European cities, including Stuttgart, Strasbourg, Paris, Oslo, Prague, Porto and Madrid. At least 11 more cities will be incorporated into this project by the end of 2025, including 2 Spanish cities: Barcelona and Malaga.
To prepare, evaluate and define the delivery areas, the Dachser branch in Malaga has started test operations with a 100% electric vehicle over two weeks at different clients and consignees. During the test rounds, the logistics operator simulated real traffic situations, analyzing the behavior of the truck, taking into account different criteria, such as different weights and loads, different days and times, changing routes and the number of stops, carrying out tests with battery recharging during the routes, with and without air conditioning, among others.
“Test operations were carried out during the month of July in different areas of Malaga. "We have thus gained valuable insights to be able to implement emission-free deliveries in the most efficient way," explains Celestino Silva, Managing Director European Logistics Iberia at Dachser.
The DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery model in Malaga is scheduled to go live in 2025. The chosen 7.5-tonne JAC vehicle will have a range of up to 230 kilometres. The Dachser branch in Malaga will also have its own charging station to enable a full charge of the 100% electric vehicle in a maximum of 5 hours.
Meanwhile, in the old town of Malaga, Dachser continues to operate with a small 100% electric vehicle put into circulation in 2015, as part of the "Eco-Distribution in the City Centre" project promoted by Malaga City Council. This electric vehicle, which travels at a speed of just 7 km/h at full load and has a turning radius of just 1.65 m, delivers packages daily. in the city's old town, a mainly pedestrian zone with access restrictions and fixed time slots for circulation. The goods are stored in a microhub, a smaller warehouse located in the historic centre that serves as support for local emission-free operations.
