7.5 ton fully electric vehicle put to the test for deliveries in the center of Madrid.

Dachser continues its commitment to a more sustainable future for distribution services in the city. On this occasion, it is in Spain where the transport and logistics operator, in cooperation with Mercedes-Benz Trucks Spain, has just carried out the first test operations with the FUSO eCanter 7C18e electric vehicle, the only 100% electric vehicle of 7.5 tons produced. serial from the market. With a payload of 2.7 tons, a capacity for 10 pallets, and an autonomy that ensures the distribution day, this zero-emission vehicle has been designed to allow more sustainable deliveries in cities, up to the last mile.

"The future incorporation of these trucks into our fleet is part of Dachser's City Distribution innovation project for the entire company. This will be an important step in expanding the innovative and sustainable concept of emission-free delivery - DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery - to areas metropolitan companies in the Iberian Peninsula ", explains Francisco Castillo, Head of Transformation of Dachser in Iberia, who is in charge of the development of this project that" will transform the Dachser fleet in Iberia towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly model ", concludes the person in charge. In Madrid, Dachser has already used a hybrid version of the FUSO Canter since 2017.

During the test operations, which were carried out during the month of July in Madrid, Dachser simulated, in a real context, a delivery itinerary in the city, with several rotations and tests with recharges during the routes. Likewise, the FUSO eCanter circulated both in the center of the capital and its surroundings, which allowed us to check the excellent response of the 100% electric vehicle and verify its remarkable performance in urban distribution. “The trial operations in Madrid have provided us with valuable information that we use to implement innovative concepts of emission-free delivery,” explains Stefan Hohm, Corporate Director Corporate Solutions, Research & Development at Dachser.

New distribution models for an emission-free future

Within the framework of the City Distribution project, Dachser is focused on finding solutions for emission-free urban deliveries that are innovative, sustainable, that comply with environmental and climate protection requirements and that provide its customers with environmentally friendly services. One solution within the DACHSER Emission-Free Delivery concept is to deliver goods in cities with electric vehicles. For this reason, Dachser is committed to renewing its fleet with latest generation Diesel vehicles or alternative energies. However, the supply of this type of emission-free vehicle is still limited.

The testing of this 100% electric vehicle on the streets of Madrid marks a new step for Dachser. The logistics operator already uses hybrid vehicles in its fleet for last-mile distribution - the FUSO Canter Eco Hybrid 7C15. By 2021, Dachser aims to implement these models in selected metropolitan areas of the Iberian Peninsula.
