Dachser creates additional air cargo capacity

  • Dachser air cargo.

The war in Ukraine, embargoes and airspace closures are also affecting global air cargo operations. World air transport capacity has decreased by around 20%. In this context, DACHSER Air & Sea Logistics offers its customers new capabilities and operates an additional weekly charter flight on the Frankfurt - Shanghai route for the next three weeks.

The new charter flight will operate once a week between Europe and Asia, carrying around 100 tons per flight. "We are monitoring the evolving situation very closely and have reacted very quickly to the current capacity shortfall on the route between Shanghai and Frankfurt," says Timo Stroh, Head of Global Air Freight at Dachser. "With this additional offering, we provide our customers with a stable and reliable service in difficult times," he adds.

Response to disruptions in air traffic

The Frankfurt-Shanghai route currently presents major congestion in air cargo capacity. "The capacity situation at our main air cargo locations in Hong Kong and Shanghai, as well as at our European Gateway in Frankfurt, remains stable," explains Timo Stroh. However, due to the coronavirus outbreaks, there are still shocks and closures in Hong Kong.

Suspended flights and no-fly zones, due to EU sanctions against Russia and the conflict in Ukraine, are currently leading to increased transit times and a general reduction in air cargo capacity. The increase in the price of oil is also aggravating the situation. However, regular charter traffic in Dachser's air cargo network, as well as customer charter flights between Europe and Asia, are mostly taking place as planned. "Despite dynamic developments and influences in the transportation and logistics market, the performance of our air cargo network remains stable and resilient," concludes Stroh.
